Did a history check on car that im looking at. In the odometer readings section it reads:
    No discrepancy found.
    meter Reading Date Recorded Source
    171000 April 2013 Private contributor
    172000 June 2013 Private contributor

How are those readings recorded and by who? As the ad for the car states mileage is 125,000 so something not right

In a similar vein, when checking the mileage on UK imports can one assume that the MOT figures are correct?

I understand that NCTs do a similar nationwide job here but in the UK aren't the tests done by independent garages?

Wouldnt those figures be from if the car was on sale in 2013 and someone did a check. Was there a change of ownership in 2013? Either way it doesn’t look good

If the car is Irish then there’s a chance the recorded readings are in km and the car is being advertised in miles and has 202,000km?

Maybe, but im just wondering why two reading so close together have been recorded and they are the only two? My question really is under what circumstances and for what reasons were they recorded and how come the background check had access to them?

Those readings from private contributor are from when a member of the public enters a reading when they run a check which means they can’t be verified or double checked rendering them largely useless when a possible discrepancy arises.

Do a Motorcheck report as they’ve more mileage readings than anyone else and all their mileage’s are from trade companies which are verifiable. Email or ring hem and they’ll give you a discount voucher

The readings are useful in the absense of official records because they can flag something. The fact that there’s two similar entries within a month would suggest they’re correct. The key info is the service history.

Ah it was fine, readings were done in KM and the ad had miles for whatever reason, it all tallied anyway and she had NCT readings of milegae for last few years. Thanks for replies and advice
