I'm looking for someone to make up a nice tidy car transporter for me. I have a Celica I use as a track car and I have been pulling it with an A frame for the last two years. So I think its time for a trailer. What I would want are twin axels, brakes, lights, jockey wheel and mudguards. After that just to keep it light really. The car is 5ft 6inch wide from outside of tyre to outside of tyre and its 8ft 6inchs from the centre of the front wheel to the centre of the rear wheel. Then from the very front of the bumper to the very back of the rear bumper is 13ft 8inchs. If anyone would be interested give me a shout. Cheers.

Don’t think home made trailers are legal any more.

Your probably right. But for 4 or 5 trips a year up the motorway ill take my chances. Once its solid and has brakes and I know its safe i'll be happy with it.

They are legal once they were made before a certain cut off date. Very difficult to prove when a trailer was made even if it looks brand new it could have been made years ago and repainted.

Surely it’d be easier to just buy a transporter trailer that’s already built (like a used one) rather than getting a stranger to build one - which as mentioned above is illegal to have on the road if built after 2013 unless it’s type approved/plated.

Why not buy one?? Plenty of decent examples out there for reasonable money.. don't have to spend 3 grand or anything, but building from scratch... it's not going to be crazy cheap either

I have been looking and saw a few and honestly anything for a grand or under are shook. I have a contact in a large breakers so can get the axels etc and im a carpenter by trade so I could do the painting and even the lights myself. Just wouldn't trust my welding for a trailer!

True enough, you need to part with 1500 or so to get anything factory built. Check out F40 in Kildare, Andy is the guys name, you'll find him on Donedeal. He builds trailers

I saw his back about 12 months ago. They were lovely. Cant remember the price now. But he seems to have stopped doing them, Nothing on donedeal now from him only one 8x4 builders trailer. He also has an ad selling loads of trailer parts and lights so I presume he's finished doing them now.

Ring him and ask, he seems to make them in batches a few times a year.
I bought one of his 8x4 trailers and they are well made.

I think the transporter trailers were about €1750.

He is building away as far as I know. He's near a relative of mine, and haven't heard anything about him stopping. He might price you up for building one

I was onto him there. €1,480 for a new one off him. Not bad in fairness.

How do you get the brakes to work off the same system ?

Arent they just cable pulled via the neck of the hitch. The more the trailer pushes up on the hitch, the more the brakes are applied.
