    Hi all.

We hope to start a new build later this year and we are interested in building using the Quinn lite blocks external walls with external insulation.

I would love to see if there is anyone here who has built a house using this method and having build what is their opinion now. I understand that this method is common in Germany and other nearby counteries and the UK but not so common here.

    Thanks in advance

Just use normal blocks and save the lightweight ones for areas where thermal bridges might happen. The insulation benefits of the lightweight block compared to a normal block are quite small when compared to the cost difference especially when you are going to have a big layer of insulation outside them.

Add to that the benefit a normal dense block will give you in terms of thermal storage and there's no reason to spend all that money on lightweight blocks.

External insulation is becoming more common here now. Plenty of people around this forum with experience in the area - I'm sure they'll chime in.
