    Hi everyone,
I am living in east Galway and would love to be able to listen to Midwest radio but I cannot get it on my radio. I got a present of a sandstorm radio which is pretty modern but can’t get this station on it. I know you can get it in Galway city. Is there any device I can attach to the radio to pick up the station?

    Thank v much.
    D

Just the normal aerial you pull up

Are you trying 96.1 FM? According to this website that is the high power transmitter in Kiltimagh.

The same site does not list any transmitters from other stations which would block reception in your area.

If you drive to some high ground you should get it on your car radio.
Move your radio to different places around the house. Higher up is usually better, but in the end an external FM aerial might be the only solution. It would go on your chimney just like a TV aerial. But your radio probably has no connector to attach an external aerial.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I tried 96.1fm. It’s a sandstorm radio I have. It has DAB on it but no channels at all on dab. I am on fairly high ground.

Have you Internet? Might be able to get it on tune in radio and stream it.

FM reception can vary within small distances. Local hills or obstructions in the way of the signal path could be a factor. If you drive around you might get some reception. You could also check whether any neighbours are able to receive it.

I have seen reports on Boards and elsewhere of Midwest being received in Kerry and Wales. But the coverage map only shows reception guaranteed in Mayo and small bits over the Galway and Sligo borders.

Purchase an Amplified tv/FM radio indoor aerial and try to connect the input signal wire to the radio...you may have to bare the input signal wire. You may also have to position it near a window or even put it outside the window.
Some of these may help you for example and are reasonably priced. They can be bought in Argos or any of the big electrical stores.

Unless you are in Westport, Ballina or Achill area Mid West will be on 96.1.

I can receive it in parts of Kerry and it often interferes with 96FM on 96.1 driving around Limerick city, but localised issues and/or a poor tuner can mean no reception much closer to the transmitter.

Assuming you mean Sandstrom, those things are a bit deaf - they sound like a good Scandinavian make but are really the cheap own brand of Currys/PC World.
There's no DAB in Galway, so you'd be better off with a reasonable quality FM/AM only radio.

Can you clarify if you can get the station (96.1) on a car radio outside the house ??

if not its probably a waste of time trying an 'Amplified tv/FM radio indoor aerial'
