    Just an expensive golf.

Like for like are they more expensive than a Golf of similar spec second hand?

They are mostly decent, the petrols give timing chain trouble.

The Scirocco uses the Mk5/Mk6 Golf platform but would have had the latest VW range of engines. Coincidently VW have just discontinued production of the Scirocco and won't be replacing it.

Will have to read up about that, did they say why?

It’s because people don’t want to buy cars like the Scirocco anymore (as evidenced by so few direct rivals to the Scirocco) and would prefer to buy crossovers like the new T-Roc or the Juke, CH-R etc.

We have alreadt witnessed the death of the 2 dour Coupe in the 90s, The 3 door hatchback is all but gone too.

Probably didn't sell enough of them to justify the money in developing a new one. The platform the existing one is built on has been around since 2004 and had to be retired.

Had one back in 2009when they came out. 1.4 petrol 125 bhp.

It was a lovely car to drive. Very different drive than a Golf.

I do think it’s dated and the market has evolved.

    Very niche market.
