Selling an Opel Insignia

So I'm helping my sister sell her 2010 Diesel Opel Insignia 2.0 CDTI privately.

    As I see it :
    Cons are :
It's an Opel Insignia (maybe a bit hard)
    210k on the clock
    750 tax p.a.

    Pro's are :
Driven since new, first as company car than bought from the company
    Full Service History (dealership)
    2 keys
CDTI - top of the range in 2010.....leather etc.

Want to sell quickly and not be faffing around with it, but never sold privately before. There is a dealer one with similiar miles and tax available at €4700 but don't how long it's been up. Would €4k or lower generate the interest needed.

Would anyone be interested in an Insignia with 750 tax p.a. ?

    Any help thanks.

The €4,700 would probably include a warranty of some sort.

How about you post up a link to the ad?

It couldn't be 750 tax per annum considering it's 2010, diesel.

It is because it is based on emission, not the plate ;)

Or Opel weren't as far advanced at fiddling the software as the others were

Either way,it makes for a tough sale on an already unloved car.Specially as there are other 2010 insignias for under 4 grand with tax of 280.

Yeah the link I posted was the lowest equivalent car I could find.....mileage, tax and automatic at €4700 or thereabouts

    Why the difference? Different engines?

The automatics had higher co2 emissions than the manuals back then hence higher tax bracket.

OP, it will be a hard sell and will have to sell at a low price if you want to shift it quickly. Lots of Insignias coming in from the UK for small money, the motor tax will be an issue for a good few buyers as will the mileage. The spec might make it appealing to someone not put off by the tax. I'd advertise it around €3750 and seriously consider any offers over 3k.

Ah hang on, that's a VAUXHALL insignia not an Opel Insignia. OP talk about a misleading ad! The Vauxhall badge makes it even more undesirable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,658 ✭✭✭kermitpwee

    I would pay 2750.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Heres Johnny

How about giving it a PROPER clean, slick the tyres, clean the trim, hoover the interior and try and make it look a little less like the ugly pig that it is.

That's why you shouldn't post on boards at 2:20 a.m. on a Sunday morning. Stupid post. What do you drive?

If the flywheel hasn't been done at this stage it could further devalue the car, can give trouble from around 80,000 miles

Stick it up for €3.5k and anything more than €3k is a bonus.

Makes very little difference on them at these days as people are importing the Vauxhall versions all the time. Other than badges they are identical these days.

Thanks Guys appreciate the feedback. I did suspect but reading in black and white does hit home on the reality. Sister is well shocked but it is what it is.

Annual tax is a killer, car has a bad rep out there and high mileage.....perfect storm.

Would that not make a perfect taxi, ie flat rate tax for them so that’s a non issue. Somebody like M.D Motors might buy I off you or could take it as a trade in

Sounds like a car you'd be best off keeping and just running into the ground. The poor Insignia gets an awful going over here but they're no where near as bad as people think. (I had one before too).

Would I drive an Opel Insignia? Maybe. Would I drive a Vauxhaul Insignia? No.

I am pretty sure somebody had posted here before that Opel/Vaxhaul was one of the UK imports that people will not pay as much for... I don't know if that was anecdotal or not.

Not really. Had it for over three years from new, sister then had it for another year after me. Not an ounce of bother between the two of us and 170k KMs. Personal experience of one rather than hearsay.

How is the tax €750 on a 2ltr CDTi ??

I had one back in 2009 and it was €200

Reflect on why she is changing and the costs involved? Is it because she really has to change to an MPV or a smaller car for example? Or is it just for a change?
Worth thinking about rather than giving the car away.

Just to give you something on the positive side....
I just sold a 2011 Vauxhall Insignia estate pretty quickly and got more than I expected.
Tax on mine was €280 which is obviously an advantage over yours and it had slightly lower mileage at 146 km.
Reading this thread, I was worried whether it would sell but the first viewer liked it and we brought it to his mechanic for an inspection and he bought it.
    Maybe I was just lucky

What price did you sell it for?
For a year older 60k more kilometers, and €480 per year extra tax, you'd probably have to reduce by €2000 or more.

    This thread has me wondering...

Am thinking of putting my vauxhall insignia up for sale. It a 2013 2.0 diesel 160bhp model.

I bought it with only 19000 miles on it and there are only 54000 on it now. Never given any hassle, am just thinking of picking up something smaller.. Hopefully will be some interest if I sell it privately..

    Asked €6250 and got €5850
