Explaining a gap in CV?

I'm quite embarrassed by this but I have a three year gap on my CV from a couple of years ago. I don't know how to explain it. I envy people who can lie because I'm not the best liar. They always catch up with you.

I finished college and found it difficult to get work. Not sure what the reason was really. The job bridge program didn't help, it did take away jobs.

I eventually took up a job bridge and they kept me on. I'm almost three years in it. To say I'm miserable is an understatement. I went to college and I don't get to do anything that I was trained for. Jobs have come up and I don't even get a look in. They take on new employees, train and pay them. I have been taken advantage of. But it's my own fault. I allowed it.

I'm fed up and sick of it. The only thing I learned is that I don't want to do it anymore. Even if I was to get something that I trained for, it's a job that is underpaid. I just want out.

I had an interview for a new job last year. I didn't get the job and gave up. I've sent of my CV at Christmas and I didn't hear back but wasn't sure if these places were even looking. It's all very disheartening. But the thought of facing Monday again, the week after that, the week after that and the week after that. I cannot continue.

Lottery win.. A five figure sum. Enough to take time out, but not enough to buy a house. Used it myself. I never won but used it as an excuse for a gap and got the job.

The truth always works out the best. I have a gap in mine too. Whenever I am asked I tell them

During my first summer break from collage I went into site labouring, the money was good and I decided to stick at it. After he collapse of the industry especially in my locality, I found myself with no job, during that time I was constantly applying for work to no avail. I then underttok a few courses, a job bridge program and even volunteered in charity shops, GAA club to keep working.

I think along as you don't say "I sat on my arse and played xbox" you should be grand. Just have an answer prepared and if you have to lie make sure its not something that can come back and bite you later on.

If its because of a personal reason make sure and state it and give them small details. Like caring for a sick relative, bereavement, more often than not they will leave it there but do not lie in this case because god forbid if who you say died, is not really dead you could be stung if they really die

It's probably best to be honest about it, it's not uncommon to come across applicants who were out of work for a period during the crash. You can always explain some of the things you did while you were unemployed.
