Hey , i ordered a PC from a german site and paid for it to be shipped with DHL .

the package was shipped from the origin city to Köln, Germany - it arrived here in the early hours of Tuesday morning and hasnt seemed to move at all.

its says "The shipment will be transported to the destination country and, from there, handed over to the delivery organization. (Homepage / online shipment tracking: An Post)

will i need a new tracking number to track it or something or is it really still sitting in Köln

Should i be concerned or not??

    In the same position..

Bought a car part on ebay..

Tracked delivery at £15 so i went with my home address instead of Parcel Motel. Big Mistake.

The parcel was handed over to An Post on the 9th.

Nothing arrived so I raised an online enquiry using their form and mailed their customer service desk a few times..

No reply to the emails but I received a letter this morning telling me they've begun investigating my case. A ****in letter

I've mailed them and asked that we take the communication to email but again no response.

The seller and Royal Mail have both been really helpful. Royal Mail said that An Post are having "system issues" but that could mean anything. Still more then I got out of An Post.

Anyway, we have to wait 21 days before taking it any further.

Absolute farce of a service. No wonder people don't use them any more.

I know i'll never ever use them again.

You are confusing DHL paket post which is the delivery agent for German post with DHL Express who provide a courier service. It usually takes 4 working days to get a packet from Germany to Ireland and from there you can track your parcel through An Post.

I've had a couple of items recently sent DHL Packet post from Germany and it was dreadfully slow about two weeks each time.

I had a parcel shipped from Germany in the same way, made a point of putting the full formal Eircode address and Eircode on the parcel and it was passed to An Post who delivered it to the wrong address (a business) who happily signed for it. Thankfully I got it the next day

Unfortunately the use of postal codes does not stop misdeliveries. Royal Mail have a complaints section on their site called "I've received someone else's mail".

DHL and Deutsche Post are the same firm. All parcel delivery in Germany is branded DHL and their is no difference in 'handing over' than there is for a letter from Germany.

What we see as DHL here is DHL Courier in Germany

It comes down to what actual Deutsche Post DHL service the sender is using

Smal Parcel (max 2 kg) can take up to 11 days, comes via Anpost standard services
Parcel International can take up to 8 days (that is the standard service), comes via AnPost Courier service
Parcel International Premium can take up to 6 days (priority delivery through the network) usually via AnPost Courier service with overnight after it reaches Ireland
Express Easy can take up to 2 days (1 days to Dublin usually) and comes in Ireland via DHL van
Express should reach Dublin with 1 day guaranteed and the rest of the country in 2 days, same comes via DHL van and is guaranteed.

As the previous posters mention, Deutsche Post DHL has different offerings, it comes down to the choice and the money willing to be paid. Express to Ireland is very expensive, while the parcel international is reasonable, the international premium is 7.50€ more than the parcel.

My last few packages from Amazon UK have been DHL and handed over to An Post upon arrival in Ireland. DHL tracking number has worked on the AP tracking page each time so far.

I think you will find that the DHL tracking number only works on the An Post tracking page once the package has been handed over to An Post at least thats how it works with DHL packet post from Germany.
