Emergency Tax

I've been doing casual work, no contract, since late 2016. I've been getting about 200 per week. My first payment was in January 2017 and have been paid monthly since then. I've been living off savings and kept putting off dealing with the emergency tax thinking I could claim it all back at some point. If like to do that now but am a little confused as to how I go about it. Can I register the job as a new job now given that my start date was late 2016? Can I get a tax cert for 2017 so I can claim back the emergency tax I paid I 2017?

Are you getting payslips to show what deductions are been made? Is your employment showing up on your Revenue online account?

If the employment isn't registered with Revenue, you can register it through your online account. That should take care of any overpayments for 2018.

Probably best to wait for your 2017 p60 to look to carry out a 2017 review to sort any overpayments for 2017.

    Thanks for your reply.

Should I register my actual starting date from 2016 or should I put down the first day I worked in 2018 which was mid this week?

The p60 for 2017 is something I automatically receive?

Register your start date from 2016. Your employer issues the P60. Most of these will be issuing in next few weeks, usually in the same manner you receive your payslips.
