    Hi lads
I'm looking to buy a new hatchback but can't for the life of me decide which one I want.
I've narrowed it down to 4 cars just looking for opinions on which one would be the better drive.

    auris Luna sport
    Vw golf highline
    Hyundai i30
    Ford focus

I'm leaning towards the Luna sport mainly because I drive an auris at the moment and it's an ok drive but the sport with the 1.2t apparently makes it even better.

I love golf cars if I could I would buy a gti but I can't so the highland would be the only option if I want a golf.

I30 looks nice, reviews seem good it's probably the basic out of the 4 I have chosen but it's a great price for it. I've only driven a hyundai i30 once as a test drive and I liked it it was an 07/08model though.

And finally Ford. Well it's a Ford everyone who I know who has one says they are built like tanks. Never have any trouble. I've never driven one.

Any ideas guys I know everyone has different opinions I just need a little more info from each car from people that have driven them

would you add the Honda Civic to that list?

If buying brand new I'd probably go with the Golf from that list. They are well equipped these days and assuming your looking at the 1.0 litre petrol they are supposed to be a decent engine. They have decent resale values too.

The Auris while probably reliable is a bit long in the tooth these days and I'd say a brand new model is not far off. I'm not a fan of the quality of the interior either.

Same goes for the Focus, an all new model is due later this year and interior of the current model feels a bit dated now as it's been around since 2011.

New i30 to me feels a bit vanilla, I'm sure it's a fine car and has a very good warranty but the styling and overall packaging just don't do anything for me. There is just nothing outstanding about it to make me want one.

Another option would be the new Honda Civic but the styling is very subjective. My only real suggestion is go test drive them all and see which one you like the most as nobody here can really make that choice for you.

Maybe I'm better off waiting til the end of the year with the hope of a new facelift for the auris and Ford.
Il book a few test drives for next week maybe 1 might make me jump to a purchase.
Not sure about the Honda seen one the other day and I didn't like the exterior at all but been honest I never really liked Honda as a brand.

    Thanks for the reply mate.

They are a bit more than facelifts. They will be all new models.

The auris golf and focus are all good and comparable. My only gripe with the focus and auris is that the interiors are outdated compared to vw group technology wise. The focus should be better specd next year.

For now a highline would be lovely.
Just an outside loop but have you seen the new leaf as yet to be released in Ireland. Similar price. 0 to 100 in 7.9.
A game changer but won't suit everyone.

Have you looked at the Mazda 3, the Opel Astra and the Renault Megane. All lovely cars and much more modern than the ones you are looking at. The Seat Leon is another you could look at too.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Of that list I’d have the Golf. I wouldn’t even consider a Focus. The Auris is grand but nothing special at this stage. The i30 is a new model and they’re giving good discounts, but the Golf is bound to have the best resale, it has the best interior, the image is subjective but most people like Golfs.

If it doesn’t make you vomit, the Civic is worth a look.

Definitly Considering the golf, just had test drive with my neighbors car.
Loved it, real smooth, plenty of power (compared to what I drive now) just felt like it would be a great upgrade for the money.

Booked a test drive in for the morning for the Luna Sport (this is the one I was leaning for, hope it goes well)

I won't go near the ford, mainly because of the new design or whatever near the end of the year.

i30 I still might test it early next week, I won't write it off until I drive it, but its going to be hard to out do that golf atm.

Also going to check the mazda 3 while I am at it, won't bother with a megane or honda tbh really don't like the look of them at all.

The i30 will drive very similarly to the Golf I think. It’ll come down to how cheap the car is and how much you value the superior warranty on the Hyundai.

Worth looking at a Seat Leon FR too, the 1.4 tsi is similar money. Some of the golf tech and standard spec is excellent.
