Im wondering what approaches people have taken to create a thermal bridge free corner window, traditionally a steel box section would be put right in the corner supporting the structure and the windows framed up to it either side. Obviously this is a thermal bridge so what approaches have people taken to avoid this?

Steel support just inside window frame, just outside window frame, some type of insulated support in the corner or maybe its worth the effort to cantilever the whole corner?

    1. Column inside
    2. Insulated outside steel column
    3. Cantilever

No 3 will require some structural engineer design as well as site supervision and sign off so
if this is a DIY, beer mat design, direct labour, self build, this will add costs over and above the norm.

My preference is to hang the windows on the outside of the outer leaf, using EWI as the finish, dealing with the twin leaf wall/lintels using a steel section inside.
