    Hi guys,

I have an interview for the position of Library assistant with Fingal Co co on the coming weeks and was just wondering if anyone could provide some insight into the way the shifts/rotas work. As the money starts at the lowest level I am just trying to work things out regarding childcare etc

Any info at all would be greatly appreciated

That seems like something you could ask at interview tbh. Otherwise drop into a library & ask someone there - I find the staff in Blanch library particularly helpful & friendly I'm sure they'd be happy to give you an insight.

I don't know about Fingal but in Dublin City this is how it used to work:

Branches are open for 6 days of the week, and for at least two of those days they open until 8 in the evening.

All staff work 2 lates and every second Saturday. So a typical working week would be 9 - 5 Monday and Wednesday, 12 - 8 Tuesday and Thursday and then alternate 9-5 Friday or Saturday. [I can't remember the exact hours but it was close to this].

I think this is a fine question to ask at an interview but I also reckon most staff would have no problem giving you the details if you ask, you would even ask over the phone if you were shy.

Thanks so much for the feedback guys, wasn't sure if it would be ok to ask at interview but I am sure it would be

Ask at the interview but don’t mention childcare. Your personal circumstances shouldn’t be discussed at interview stage. Good luck with your interview.

Thanks xfactorfan, I definitely wouldn't mention childcare but just wasn't 100% sure if it was ok to ask how the rota worked. Thanks so much

    Hi there TearFairy,

Hope your interview went well. I have mine soon and I was wondering if the interview was hard?

    Hi everyone,

I applied for this job recently and have been shortlisted.

I was shortlisted too. Do you know if they have started placing people yet?

Is there any surplus payment for working these hours. Someone mentioned to me that the civil service works off a Monday - Saturday 8am - 8pm work schedule so no overtime or allowances for these hours.

    Is that the case?

    Hi all,

I applied for this position for SDCC just over 2 months ago. I was just wondering how long it was after you expressed interest that you were contacted about the next phase? Thank you 😊

    Hi Lena,
You might get more responses if you start a new thread for this. The Library Assistant post for Fingal didn't require expressions of interest, so we just turned in our job applications and were contacted shortly thereafter to be interviewed. The process was fairly quick all together.
