No heat! Problem with gas boiler - what course of action to take

    Hi,

I've been having some issues with the my heating over recent weeks, it started a while back with one downstairs radiator not heating properly and over Christmas it worsened to the state that when I turn on the heat the rads upstairs will come on but downstairs will take a long time and will only be 'warm' and never hot. I had been trying to get someone out to look and eventually got someone to look.

The boiler is a Viessman Vitodens 100-W WB1B 26kw system. The plumber opened it up and after having look at it, and the radiators and the hotpress says he thinks the system needs to be flushed. He showed me a pipe in the boiler and said when you squeeze it you can feel the sludge? or limescale (I can't remember which). There's another pipe towards the back of the boiler the same it seems. With regard to the flush he said he can do this from one radiator in the bathroom.

As it happens, since he left I can't get any of the radiators downstairs to come on at all and the upstairs ones are barely heating so it's now crucial that I get this sorted. A friend of mine who knows a lot more than I do is concerned that this may not be the correct, or sufficient course of action to fix the problem (he is wondering about these pipes that can be squeezed and the method of doing the flush as apparently there's a good way and a not so good way to do this? )

Obviously I have zero clue about any of this and am at the mercy of whoever comes in knowing their stuff and doing a proper job.

I"m hoping for some advice maybe from someone who might know the Viessman boilers.

    Thanks in advance.

There was no mention of circulating pump or motorized valves and unfortunately I haven’t a clue what or where they might be :(

If it makes any difference, the boiler is heating the hot water okay (although not if the heating is on too..)

If the boiler is heating the water and sending it out then maybe the boiler side of things may be ok ..
Can be alot of things really , whats your location ? Maybe someone here can recommend a plumber to take a good look over the system for you !

Is it a coincidence that the two radiators that are heating are bathroom ones with no temperature controls on them.? seems very odd.

If you need a good heating specialist...I can recommend one. Are you in Dublin?

I'm not in Dublin amtc, thanks though. I've been in contact with Bord Gais Home team to see how quickly they can get someone out for a 2nd opinion. I guess I was hoping someone here might have a similar boiler and know what the pipes are he's referring to and whether they have an impact on circulation
