Hi. I have a question about medical card. My wife started her job in May 2017 and in November both our card were canceled due to combined income around 450€ for family. I am not working at present as I am receiving Disability Allowance due to cancer and at present time I am on my Chemotherapy Treatment. Everything was great except Chemo, but after our cards were canceled nightmare started for me as going to the hospital and GP for Chemo treatment and getting tablets is big money its around 1500€ per session. Would anyone know about this situation at all is it possible to get back my medical card or leaving the job is only one option?
Another question is about savings we have some savings on bank account can it affect decision on medical card re-issue?
    Thank you.

The medical card is means tested so any savings you have are counted.
You can apply for it online and see if you are eligible.

Just to point out that as a public patient you won't have to pay for your chemo. A person who doesn't have a medical card pays €80 per night up to €800 for admission to hospital. You are also covered by the drugs payment scheme limiting your spend in a pharmacy to €140 per month.

I always thought that cancer sufferers received a medical card?

You should be entitled to a medical card on medical grounds

I got an invoice to pay 80€ already, and I have to go to the hospital every 3 weeks for Chemo, so I presume I have to pay 80€ everytime. At the moment I applied for LTI scheme for free medication as I have to take tablets for epilepsy aswell everyday apart from Chemo tablets

We have about 8000€ on saving because we were planning to get a mortgage before my cancer knocked out door again last september. I was reading about savings etc and it said that first 72000€ for family is disregarded, but still don't understand im not even close to 72K and medical card is gone. I was thinking that if you have under the limit you are allowed to keep medical card.

If she was unemployed for 12 months then you may be able to retain your card for 3 years: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/employment/starting_work_and_changing_job/training_and_looking_for_work/return_to_work.html

I was thinking the same, but now as they told me as we are married and my wife is working both of our cards are gone. I will see what will happen next as I sent GP and my oncology doctor's report to they for another review.

I had it since 2010 and there were no problems until now. Its probably because of income its over the limit, but as I am not working at the moment as I am on treatment, those money that my wife earns not enough to cover all expenses. Its sad to say but the only way is to leave the job and go back on social payment.

Last time she was working was in 2015 before she got pregnant, but they didn't mention the reason why they canceled cards at all. I am waiting on their decision as I posted doctor's reports to them.

Most likely you’ve been cancelled due to lack of documentary evidence and/or a failure to engage.
You need to ring tomorrow 1890252919 and talk to them. It’s possible that a new application is needed.
If your wife was on JSA continuously for 12 months before she got the job then you are entitled to the medical card for 3 years.

I sent them everything they asked my wife as she got an email for review of her medical card, not me. She started her job in May '17 then we got our medical cards in August and in November they were canceled. I was on the phone to them and they asked me for doctor's report which I have emailed to them and now waiting for decision.
She wasn't on JSA she was receiving a Disability Allowance as qualified adult, and looking for some work, as social welfare told us she is already on social payment.
