Any one have any experience of these ? apologies if it is already covered on a thread elsewhere.

More to the point - anyone have to avail of the warranty & how were they to deal with ?

    Many thanks in advance,

I did years back (~2010 / 2011) as part of an extended warranty on a >3 year old car. I claimed via the dealership at the time and got sorted. I ddidn't need to deal with Mapfre directly.

If the dealer supplying the warranty honours it, it might be ok.

Generally speaking though I'd be of the opinion that they aren't worth the paper they are written on.

They are a great tool for sites that sell cars but that don't have a workshop to fulfill the legal obligation of providing a warranty but at the same time being able to completely wash their hands of the vehicle if there is an issue.

Mapfre have very defined t's and c's in terms of what is and isn't covered with plenty of opportunity to wiggle out of claims, they will also only pay a max amount per claim which may not cover the full cost of repair, that and the rates they pay for repairs arent great and for that reason alone a lot of garages will not work for them.

That's not to say, they do provide cover, they will pay out for certain things and certain garages will work for them but it is not a preferable way to recieve a warranty.

I have this and have had to use it. I found them to be OK. The only thing I don't like is that they only deal with certain mechanics (they have a list of approved mechanics) so if you are outside of Dublin or a big city you may be a little stuck. I know I will have to go to Dublin to have an ongoing issue assessed.

It's more an insurance policy than a traditional warranty. Just make sure you understand the terms and conditions along with the exclusions. Also not every garage will do work for them as it can be a right pain to get paid by them or they want you to bring it to x garage instead. Yes it's better than nothing but imo its not as good as a proper comprehensive used car warranty. And as said, it allows the garage you bought the car from to tell you it's not their problem either.

Yes and you can also get into situation where a major strip down is required to assess whether a repair is covered or not. Having to do this at a garage approved by them and then finding its not a warranty job could prove to be expensive.

    Many thanks in advance,

If you're asking this because you are thinking of buying a second hand car from a dealer thats offering a warranty on the vehicle via Mapfre than I would honestly advise you to save yourself the hassle and buy from a reputable garage that they themselves stand over in terms of after sales warranty.

Third party warranties from Mapfre are not worth the paper they're printed on. I have had 2 issues to date with second hand cars bought from dealerships with a supposed warranty covered by this crowd and they are total Sh1te.

The third party warranty can allow for the crowd thats selling you the car claim no responsibility for issues with the car after you buy, and Mapfre's warranty's a lot of terms and conditions that can potentially allow them to not cover the cost of any repairs needed.

    Walk away from it IMO...
