The blue top sle's are a very fast tractor on the road with decent wheels under them they're good for up on 50km/h.

Check the brakes they're soft-ish and pricey sort also test the shuttle operates in a kind fashion when the tractor is good and warm some rougher examples of them engage harshly and jerk when being worked.

What gearbox is in it? Some people say that they get on fine with them while others think they were the work of the devil. Their strong point would be the powerstar engine. Weak points are the gearbox, pick up hitch and lots of oil leaks.

Have a 96 white roof sl model with 15 years 14000 hrs up on her can safely say she was the best thing that I ever bought, she done every thing I wanted and more from bailing to slurry ,

Good tractor and not too bad on diesel. SL transmissions are a better option. Some of the SLE transmissions are prone to give bother. Some stuff is minor enough such as packs to be changed other times there's a bit more to it. Straightforward tractor to operate and a great tractor to pull

Like I said, some people love them and others have no luck with them. I know 2 people with 7740's. The man with the white roof sle loves it. He bought it when twas a year old. They were always ford men. Other man has a blue roof sldp from new and doesn't rate it at all. These people were all massey and are gone back to massey when buying new since. I think when he was buying that time in '97, it was either a 398 or a 7740. The 7740 would have had the superior cab by a stretch, the cabs on the 398 were outdated by then. Different folks...Different strokes.
