Housing list eligibility

Just wondering what are the main requirements for getting accepted on the housing list.

I checked my application after 5 years and was told that it had been cancelled due to not updating my information! Apparently they sent two letters a year later to an old address but the landlord never received any post with my name on it.

Really would have thought they would email or text.

It is up to you to update your addresses as you move. If you dont you do run the risk of being removed from the list if they send you out forms you dont complete and return.

Its not their fault you didnt update your info.

It does actually state this on the forms when you apply also

Yes you must update then when you change address, that onus falls on the applicant and only the applicant.

Happened to me, I was off it 4 years until I called by one day to check.

I eventually got my time back.

Unfortunately you will need to re apply ,
Most councils take out adds in local papers and councillors share social media postings asking people to contact the county council by a certain date or they get removed from the list and rightly so

They could email or text you and you could be living anywhere in the entire world.

Just think in this day and age texting or emailing would be a much better form of contact.

Can anyone answer if there is any point applying in my case:

    Annual earnings 22,000
    Credit Union savings
Travel by bus to work. Monthly cost 140.00
    Living with housemate
Full time employment contract with part time hours. Working 34 - 40hrs per week
    Age 33

Do you not agree that you could get a text/email and be thousands of miles away in Aus/Sth Africa and thus not entitled to remain on the housing list?
What is your relationship with your housemate?

really depends on the relationship to the housemate. In alot of parts of the country the wait for single people is well up in double digits, like closeto 20 yearsin some places :(

splinter65 I agree but what about the majority of people that are still within the county but forget.

We are seeing each other but not married or engaged.

If you forget to tell the local authority that you moved house then it wasn’t all that important to you and it’s not their responsibility to chase customers and you really can’t expect them too, any more then you’d expect the bank or SW to chase you.
An email to customer service at you local authority informing them of your change of address would have done the trick.
But sure it can’t be helped now anyway.
You’re in a relationship with someone and cohabiting with them so is she/he looking to be considered “in need of housing” too? I assume so.
If thats a joint application then you need to include all your partners details including income and housing history and you’ll be jointly assessed.

Not sure if I should start a new thread but was wondering if anyone knew if it was worth changing council housing lists. Are country lists moving better than city ones? Is it worth going to the back of Fingal list than staying with DCC as Fingal are building more houses etc . We have been on DCC list for 6 years. I call regularly to see if there is any movement in the DCC areas we can pick but have not moved on the list in over 4 years. In Private Rented 2 bed house but not on RA/ HAP. I'm in full time employment wife is on JA. 2 boys.

Doubt it , the current average wait across the country is 12+ years

You have to prove a connection with the county you are applying to. No connection no housing list in the county I’m in.
