My brother and his wife went to Villamoura last march. She doesn't play however he went down to the club house just after he arrived and spoke to the pro or the greenkeeper and he was given a couple of early morning slots with some other 'lonesome doves'.

    In the Algarve no problem
Call where you intend playing and they will put you with others.
Then fingers crossed you dont get the 'expert' that plays off 36 telling you where you game is going wrong:rolleyes:

Would you not leave a 2 ball or a 3 ball just enjoy their round together!

They've probably planned this trip for months and are looking forward to being together in their own company.

    There’s two things here.

First, another playing partner rarely diminishes a round of golf. It doesn’t mean you have to weak every inch of fairway with your partners, but it does provide an opportunity to talk golf.

Second, holiday courses will fill their time sheets given any chance at all. If not the OP it will be someone else.

Palmares, just outside of Lagos, is probably the best course in that area and one of the best in the Algarve. Boavista, on the other side of Lagos, is a nice course to play if you are on holidays. A lot of houses on the course particularly while playing the first few holes and last few. Generally do good deals there also.
I have played it a few times with random punters while holidaying in the area. In fact the last time I played it, I met a guy for Limerick and I ended up playing two more rounds with him.

I agree completely on Palmares. Boavista is fine, but the views on Palmares are fabulous and it is a top class course. Some of the holes are links style and the 17th in particular would remind you of Royal County Down (without the rain)

What an odd view, some of my most memorable rounds have been joining as a random or having one join us. Didn't effect my enjoyment at all. I've made golf friends I play with when I'm over there from joining as a random.

And as said its difficult to book a solo round in Spain and I presume the same is true for Portugal to allow as many green fees as possible.

While not a team sport golf is much more enjoyable as a group IMO.

Boavista is the closest, they'll let you rent clubs too.

I've played Parque da Floresta and Espiche too.
