Looks like this is filling up fast- get your entries in quick! The 1,500, 800, and 200back are all full up already... (don't know why the 200bc was so popular!?)

Is it surprising that the two longer distances have filled up before the sprint distances? Didn't think there would be that many into self-flagellation!

Someday I'm going to come home for this, would be fun to enter. Been a long time since I competed in a gala.

There are only a few heats for the longer events, I presume for time reasons (the slowest 1,500 heat might take 40mins), so less places available than for sprints. As for self-flagellation, those distances are popular with the growing OW and Tri scene!

This will only be my third year attending, but its a great gala, really looking forward to it (and the self-flagellation!)

That'd make sense. Hadn't thought about it that way.

Was thinking back to my underage gala days where I would balk at the idea of busting a gut for 1500m when I could be done in 100m. Times a changin', hate flat out sprints now and would much rather the 1500!

For me it's related to the distance to travel - 2-3hrs driving to do a 90 sec race is a bit much, at least with the 1500m you get to swim for a longer time - much longer in my case.

There aren't many opportunities to swim those events, let alone swim them long course in a given swim season here.

I signed up for the 200m BC partly to see what time I'd get (I've never swam it before), and partly because it should be easier to get a medal in it :D

I'm also in the 400m Free, 200m Free, 100m Free and 50m free. Its going to be a long day.

So these Champs have been hit by the snow... no 1,500 or 800  but what can you do... its a shame for Limerick Masters and all the hard work they put in, but there is still a good days program, so bring it on!

Best of luck to everyone competing this weekend! I'm not sure if the extra few weeks training were a help or a hindrance:D

Well that was a fantastic weekend, well done to great hosts Limerick Masters! Brilliant to see so much competition across all age groups- swimming really is a lifelong competitive activity. Some great times, some great races. Performance of the weekend IMO was Brian Harris swimming 18:54 for a new AG record. He was given a great race in the 800 next day, matched stroke for stroke for the first few hundred before his rival pulled up- looked like cramp? Hope you're ok, and well done on going for broke and then finishing out the race.

I managed to hitch my wagon to a good relay team and grab a couple of medals, didn't really race brilliantly in individual events (rookie errors on turns which I need to practice), but times were ok and overall still buzzing from a successful couple of days in the pool.

I had a good day. A combination of good times for me and bad times/no shows for my main two competitors meant I had the best results ever from that gala. My wife didn't have a good day, but it was her first LC gala and most of her swims were after lunch so it all caught up with her.

It was a bit odd having the floor so shallow and was very off-putting for my first couple of practice dives.

First competitive swim for about 40 years. Great weekend and a handful of medals - more to do with advancing years reducing the competition than any real ability on my part. The real eyeopener of the day was 50m back crawl is so hard - those flags seem to take forever to appear! Well done to everyone who swam and thanks to Limerick for a great day.

Show's my age that that was the one thing that didn't bother me. :D
