Hi, looking to pick up a mk2 Prius. Is there anything in particular to look out for?
Might be going to look at one tomorrow.

Water in boot - battery well and under spare.

What Grogi said. It's easy enough to sort out though, just use Tiger-seal (Tek 7) along all the body joints just outside the Boot Seal.

Make sure the Stereo works....especially on the models with Sat-Nav, Bluetooth, etc.

The only 2 common mechanical issues are water pump failure (in fairness if it went already then it would have been replaced) and the 12v battery (a cheap enough replacement). Front hub bearings can go on some of them but again not a major job.

The Gen 2 is probably the best of the Prius's (Prii ?). Have one here with 200k miles. Brought in from the UK 4 years ago with 100k on it. Apart from oil changes and Tyres, the only other money spent was on a pair of front shocks for the NCT.
I'd say it has been the most reliable (and cheapest to run) car I've had in 30 years of driving.

Without wanting to offend anybody here I would avoid the Jap import ones. I don't think any of the Sellers here can properly change the MFD (the Info screen) from Japanese to English, and the Radio will not tune in anything 'above' Radio 1.
Also some reports that the Main Dealers can't (or won't) use their diagnostics on them.

Any opinions on something like this. Does the back bumper look a different colour to the rest of body or is that just aging?

The bumper definitely looks like it's had a respray. I'd be checking inside the boot itself to see how the body looks.
Other than that it's fairly priced for it's age and the mileage is good (if it's correct, have a look at the NCT cert to see the last couple of readings).
The seats, etc are very hard wearing and should be in good condition for the mileage.
Have a trawl through priuschat.com . Loads of useful info there. Just remember it's a US site so Driver's side normally relates to the l/h side.

Thinking of going to look at this. Price seems a bit strong though, I would be thinking closer to €3000-€3,200?

Even 04 models are asking strong money.

True, I'm just a tight b*****d! Might take a look anyway. Owner said brakes need to be serviced. There was a guy on here saying that he was having problems with his Prius' brakes that were costing him a fortune.
