Vaccination program here for nearly 20 yrs.started with salmonella in 1998 after a severe outbreak when I was just taking over when I was 18.we lost 6 cows,15 calves and a couple of weanlings.cows now done for bvd, lepto, salmonella, ibr and blackleg.i guess overtime and wit hopefully doing things a bit better yr on yr the vet bills and calls are falling.nowadays its the vaccination stuff that makes up most of the veterinary costs instead of paying the vet.cows and maiden heifers also get 2 boluses' in the yr at end of march and early November

What does it cost you per cow for those vaccinations?

For the yr 2017 I spent €2750 on vaccinations and boluses for a herd of 76cows and 32 replacement heifers.

Rota and black leg for yearlings and calves that's it.

That's cheap compared to an outbreak like you described above when you started!

We had a client last year with 2 BVD PI calves born after heifers returned from outfarm. That was 6 months ago. So his Spring calvers were already in calf and exposed to this PI. He just had 8 PI's taken away last week out of a batch of 10 calves tagged. Vaccination is always money well spent. This situation was nearly the perfect storm for timing unfortunately.
