Possible to get second hand removed?

I was given a gift of a Rotary watch. I love it except for the second hand (different colour, dominates the face, face would be much cleaner without it). Anybody know if it’s possible to get it removed? Where would do it? (I’m based in Dublin)

It is an easy enough job to do for any watchmaker. Bring it to a few different jewellers and have them give you a quote for it.
Depending on the watch, how easy it is to access the face, it should take about 15 mins.

You might want to consider getting a less 'in your face' second hand installed instead?

Thanks. Is it likely to have any negative effect on the operation of the watch itself or the other two hands? Would be happy without a second hand.

None at all. The second hand is just a stick that is stuck on a moving pin head. You are just removing the 'stick'.
The only negative thing is that the centre of the watch may not be as pretty as essentially there will be a small hole there.
