    I'm not in London.

I just think you are expecting a life that ain't going to exist.

If you find this idyllic little village with zero crime, what opportunities for work/apprenticeships etc do you think are going to be there?

Where do you live now? What are the specific problems you have in Ireland that you think won't exist in England/London?

Why not try somewhere like Newbury, if I remember a lovely wee Town and about 50mls from London.. I worked down there for a while when I lived in London. I would guess a low crime rate!? Anyway I was well impressed with it's historical features, countryside etc....
There are numerous picture postcard villages not unlike emerdale in looks, both North and South of London.
Tho Corwall and Devon would be hard to beat..

Your not going to find a big demand for makeup artists, beauty therapists and hairdressers in small crime free villages.
And you're especially not going to be getting an apprenticeship in one.

Try looking into one of smaller cities if you're not into London. There is probably 100 cities in the UK with populations over 100k

A lot of professional training in the UK has been academicised as part of the 1992 reclassification of polytechnic colleges into universities, so it's very important to do your research about available prospects before making a move. Specifically, bear in mind that students in England are required to pay fees for Higher Education regardless of the general availability of free HE for EU citizens (note that this is not the case in Scotland, for example).

Another thing worth noting is that if you do pick an idyllic small crime-free village in rural England, you may find that the locals are not particularly keen on you (or immigration in general) which can be a bit of an issue when it comes to integrating and settling in.

If you have some savings, you could always move over on spec and see how you get on. But I'd say a large part of making that work is moving somewhere with enough churn in the job market that you can find your feet quickly and get at least some kind of paying work to keep a roof over your head. Small-town England and thriving beauty industry are two groups which don't have a massive overlap in a Venn diagram, tbh...

As ill thought through as this move seems to be I have a suggestion. Bath would be a middle ground of nice place plus potentially OK job market.

Look into North Yorkshire or Northumberland. You'll find them relatively cheap and somewhat accessible along the A1. Leeds/York and Newcastle will be the nearest major cities respectively.

Alternatives might be the rural region around Bristol (expensive). Avoid East Anglia and Lincolnshire; rural enough - but suffer from poor transport links and limited earning opportunities.

The East Midlands are full of smaller cities like Leicester/Derby/Nottingham. Maybe they will suit as well. Check out the sleepy villages of Northamptonshire.

Yes...I second Bath. Smallish yet fairly diverse. Well educated locals. Handy for Bristol airport. Chocolate box villages can be a bit Royston Vasey. Bored young lads pissed up at the weekends etc. Xenophobia is rising post Brexit in small town UK.

Lot of the villages in Northamptonshire are expensive enough, still a lot cheaper than a load of previous suggestions though and easily commutable to a lot of places, depending on side of the county. Hour commute or less to Milton Keynes, Leicester, Coventry, Oxford, Cambridge, Peterborough or the finest town in England - Northampton*. It's little bit further to Birmingham and only bit further still to London.

*It's a kip, a wonderful, ugly, grim, unfriendly kip. (but does have some nice bits too)

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

Somerset is a lovely area, lived there for 5 years! South west is a lovely area, amenities are great because it's more rural but you aren't too far from Bristol if you want to go to a city.

I lived in ilkley for a while, gorgeous town on the doorstep of the yorkshire dales, twenty 15-20 minute drive from leeds bradford airport, which fly's into dublin, ryanair and aer lingus. It is on the train line, so you get to leeds and bradford very quickly... york is also close enough, so is harrogate, which is a gorgeous town. There are so many towns and cities on the doorstep of that area and then the countryside is stunning too!

absolutely gorgeous town, quite affluent... so could be good for your line or work...

It sounds like maybe Yorkshire is the kind of place you are looking for. Somebody said North Yorkshire, like Harrogate or York, which I have heard is less impoverished than South Yorkshire, where I used to live and would guess that it would be tough to get a job. Leeds mightn't be bad either.
