Photographer Acknowledgements

    Hi all,
I recently won a competition where a few of my photos were to be used in a company's publication. I got a few merchandise items from the company as a prize, along with a copy of the publication. However, I'm just wondering if my photos (and the rest of the photos from other winners) should have had a photographer acknowledgement? I'll likely do nothing about it, so this is more for my own curiosity.

It just seems a bit pointless getting photos used in a publication without any sort of acknowledgement of who took the photo. It's not far reaching in the general public but would be of interest and popular enough within the sport that's the subject of the photos. I'm not sure if everyone's photos even won a prize outside of having their photo used as several of mine were used, including the front page photo. It doesn't sit right with me that there might be people who basically gave their photos away for nothing, possibly think that at least they might get better known as a photographer in the sport.

Should there have been even a short list of names at the back, or should I focus on my own prize and be grateful I got something? I don't look at many competitions but those I do usually name the winners, but that could be coincidence

What did the T&C of the competition say? A lot of these comptetions are rights grabs i.e. a cheap way for a company to get quality content. Worstcase scenario, I'd check the T&C and see if you haven't completely signed away any rights at all to your images.

There were no T&C about copyright or ownership, so I assumed I still have full rights over my photos?

What were the T&Cs ? there should have been something like the following or similar (this grabbed from some random T&C on the internet) ...

"6. Copyright in all images submitted for this competition remains with the respective entrants. However, in consideration of their providing the Competition, each entrant grants a worldwide, irrevocable, perpetual licence to Some Compan to feature any or all of the submitted images in any of their publications, their websites and/or in any promotional material connected to this competition."

There were no T&C posted at all, other than the date of entry, the subject of the photos and the number of photos you can send.

First, well done on getting your photos selected.

If this is small publication then not posting the photographers name might just be an amateur oversight on the side of the people putting the piece together. A tactful email to the editor might lead them to including a name tag to photos in future publications. Who knows, you might find yourself credited in the next edition.
