infection after teeth cleaning

ok so I got my teeth cleaned 2 days ago and the same night, I had this pain while eating in the back of my mouth behind my bottom set of teeth on the right side.
Anyway I remembered the feeling before from the last time I got my teeth cleaned (at the same place) and got an infection. I had to pay extra to go back and get antibiotics and get another follow up - it really annoyed me but I had forgotten all about it or else I would have tried somewhere new. The first time the dentist didn't address the fact that I had been there 2 days before for a cleaning, as if it wasn't relevant.
I basically think I'm about to repeat history with this new infection. before these 2 events I had never had an infection in my mouth.
I'm wondering if the prob is the dentist / hygienist as in is the place not cleaning properly or do I have some problem (that has never ever been mentioned to me btw) that would make me likely to get these infections (only after teeth cleaning)
    Thanks if anyone can answer

I have recently been for a cleaning too & had severe sensitivity afterward & a degree of swelling. Anyway he told me to get sensodyne rapid relief tooth paste & rub it into my gums along with brushing. After a few days I was right as rain.

This happens everytime I go for cleaning. Lots of painkillers for a few days afterwards.

What type of infection did you get exactly?

    Sensitivity is normal after cleaning.
The tartar often covers exposed root surface and then when it's removed you experience more sensitivity.

Fishorsealant I'm pretty sure it was Pericoronitis altho can't be 100%. Before going to dentist I thought my last wisdom tooth had become infected or something. The dentist took an x ray and told me there was no wisdom tooth there at all (previously I had double jaw surgery back in summer of 2016 and had 3 wisdom teeth taken out. The HSE surgeons told me that they would remove 3 wisdom teeth which had come up and the 4th was stuck in the jaw)
Thanks Andy and Paul I will try the toothpaste + painkillers and hope the issue will feck off

I've seen this a few times over the years, usually right at the back of the lower jaw as the op describes. The back surface of the last lower teeth are the hardest to brush/floss so there is usually plaque deposits which are covered with bacteria. As this tends to extend under gum, during removal of plaque some bacteria can get into soft tissues and cause an infection. It has nothing to do with "dirty instruments", and usually a lot to do with bacteria in the area.
