05 Ford Focus LX engine malfunction light flashing.

So I bought a 2005 Ford Focus LX.

Next day after I bought the car I could here a rattling noise when the clutch is pressed.
I’ve been told it could be a worn release bearing/bearing.
I was also told that it could be the dual mast in these cars as the rubber just wears down after a while.

I’ve kept my rpm under 3000 rpm but noticed once I went over 4000 that the engine malfunction light would start flashing for a min or so and would then turn off.

I’m in Limerick institute of technology and live in Dublin so I travel up weekends.
After the 2 hour journey when I slow down through the gears or stopping at the toll when taking back off the car would be very sluggish and chugging going back up through the gears.

The engine light is now on constant so have stopped driving it as I don’t want to do more damage until I get a chance to get it looked at.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with the car and advice on what to do?

It could be a coil, plug leads or plugs. And that's just to mention a few. You need to get it scanned to get an idea of where to start.

Yeah I’ve left it at home for the week gonna book it in for a service next weekend and tell the mechanic the issues and get him to have a hander and see what’s up with it.
Hopefully nothing too expensive if I’m lucky.

I did get back in it an hour after I parked up and the engine light was gone off again still though not gonna drive it and end up damaging it even more.
