Looking for recommendations for the Canary Islands for a week next Christmas if anyone has done this. 2 adults (mature), self catering apts, basically a bog standard week in the sun but for Christmas. Not mad nightlife areas. Nice places to eat and nice bars with a bit of music, but not the typical Irish pub scene.
Also what kind of prices should we expect? Would a week at Christmas be typically more expensive than the summer?
I can't get anything online, maybe it's too early in the year yet.
    Thanks..

Myself and the missus did Gran Canaria for 10 days over Christmas.

    Rented a car with Interrent.
Did the North of the Island for a few days and stayed in Las Palmas, was lovely and not too touristy.

Then went south and stayed a few nights in Maspalomas and then Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico was my favorite and you could grab the boat up to Anfi Beach (best beach there in my opinion)

    Would thoroughly recommend it. :D

Love Gran Canaria - we stay in Mespalomas/Melonaras area.
We had a car so drove to Mogan etc.

Lovely restaurants and bars along the sea front in Melonaras

Thanks for the replies. TBH I was only thinking of Lanzarote, completely forgot about Gran Canaria. I'll have to widen up my search. Can I ask whether either of you went self catering and roughly how much it cost? Neither of us will be driving, we've more or less decided that.
Also what did ye do for Christmas day? Did ye spend it alone or join with other groups?

We just booked some cheap flights and stayed in hotels.

    In Maspalomas we stayed at:

In Puerto Rico we stayed at:

To be honest I preferred Puerto Rico, it was only a short walk to the town (15 Minutes) and easy to get places from there.

The Hotel in Puerto Rico looked a bit grim when you walked in but the apartments are great, really spacious and clean with a large terrace that has Sun Loungers and a table.

The FBC Fortuny in Maspalomas was lovely but to be were out so much enjoying the beach, restaurants and bars we only really slept there.

I wouldn't go with full or even half board, there are so many nice places to eat you'll go out most of the time and you can always pay for an off breakfast if you want.

For Christmas Eve we spent it at a beach bar eating food and having a beer watching the sunset :)

There are a few English/Irish bars doing Christmas Dinners and stuff, also many of the hotels have Christmas Galas on with food and drinks included but we just wanted to chill and relax :)

I would go self catering too. Its a very popular destination at Christmas so lots of restaurants doing Xmas dinner etc. Best part of holidays is finding new places to eat :)
