    Hi all,

I recently returned, just over a month ago, from living abroad. I was led to believe I'd have work within a few weeks of returning but this fell through and since I've found it difficult to get something in my line of work. Money is very tight at the minute and I'm hoping to claim Jobseekers Allowance.

Luckily I've never claimed before but I'm wondering is it possible to claim from the date I returned and if so what would I need?

Anyone with any knowledge of the system your advice is very much appreciated.

    Thanks

Go in on Monday and make an appointment. All you need is your PPS number. They'll give you a list of what you need to bring for your appointment. They will pay you from the first day you present baring exceptional circumstances.

    Thanks for the reply.

So there's no way of claiming for the days since I returned? I suppose no exceptional circumstances other than me thinking I had worked lined up which fell through, which isn't an exceptional circumstance :/

Depending on how long you have been gone you might have to satisfy habitual residence rules too

You'll be grand and you'll qualify for Job seeker benefit or allowance depending on your previous work history. If you had a letter from the employer saying you had a job which has since fallen through they may give you some leeway but I wouldnt hold your breath
