Laptop speed is dreadful 2-5 Mbps over the same 5G wifi that my phone gets 280-300! All other devices in the house get similar speeds to the latter.

Cable speeds on the laptop are fine btw.

Disabled my internal wifi card, installed a USB dongle, same situation!

    Any ideas?

are those readings taken from the same location ?
what speed do you get when wired to the router , how old is your laptop ,
is it capable of using the 5Ghz band ?

The new white compal modem? I've seen at least 2 older laptop wireless cards now that do not play nice with that modem on receive. Seems to be related to the 20mhz/40mhz auto setting on the 2.4ghz band. The compal modem seems to be really slow to move into the lower band, but really fast to move back. Could be wrong though, didn't have much time to look into it. I just threw in a newer AC card into the machines and went on with my day.

Same location, right next to each other.
    When it's wired I get 300+.
The laptop is ~4 years old so the built in wifi works only at 2.4GHz. The dongle works at both frequencies and was connected on the 5GHz during the screenshots.

I've got the Hub 3 on modem mode, and a TP Link C9 as a router.

Many many dongles are pure junk so I wouldnt put much faith in tests from them.

Pop your mobile in hotspot mode, connect the laptop and speedtest. If thats good then you know its a compatibility issue between the C9 and the laptop.
