splinting to save tooth?

I seem to have loads of questions lately, :( i have a loose tooth right in the middle lower front tooth, its wobbly and probably only held in place by the tarter build up (sorry if TMI) anyways i have to have it cleaned by a periodontist which i have an appointment for. I have moderate gum disease, and some bone loss in front. he was on about extracting teeth and getting implants in, but i have since spoken to a dentist friend and she said he should have recommended splinting t o hold the tooth for now and to look at implant in the future. But he never mentioned splinting and i am wondering why? as at the moment the cost of implants and the temporary tooth is beyond my budget.

You'd really have to ask the periodontist directly, everything else is just speculation. (Maybe splinting isn't suitable in this case, maybe they don't realise that your budget won't allow for implants at the moment, maybe they don't/won't do "patchup" work, maybe they might have suggested splinting after having done the cleaning.. ..who knows)
You need to open the lines of communication with them & explain very clearly to them both your budget& your expectations.

unless your friend had a proper look with appropriate xrays etc, then their opinion isn't really worthwhile.

had a patient in here today who complained about having a denture when his dentist buddy told him to get a bridge, even though he has severe issues with his remaining teeth that couldn't be seen just in a conversation.
