    Hi All,

I need your help ! My elderly father is getting rode by Telecom companies.
He has a old fixed landline - he won't give this up, needs his old buddies to call him on his landline numbers. He rarely uses this landline phone.

he needs unlimited broadband as this is used for TV.

So the question, any better system that offers unlimited broadband and can keep some sort of phone via Voip, maybe get rid of line rental.

the amount he is paying is just wrong and it is an abuse of the elderly.

Thanks folks for you help in this matter.

Can he get virgin media wherever he is based?

If not have you done a line checker on the current phone line to see whats available on that?

Would the following work ? Get something like Tesco mobile, put that into a WIFI dongle, use that for VOIP hard phone, and TV streaming, that would cost something like 100 / 200 PA as opposed to current provider which is like 1000 euro ? Once again thanks for suggestions.

Mobile broadband is not reliable when it comes to VOIP and you'd eat up the allowance when using it for TV.

Note that Tesco Mobile doesn't have 4G yet and there seems to be no date as to when they will have either.

TM is half a network, not a contender.

If he needs unlimited stable BB then ADSL/VDSL is often still a very good option. A €50/mo Phone and BB plan is only €600 PA, how is he paying 1K?

Hi OP. Another oldie here. 😂. I would love to get rid of my Landline with Eircom, but Himself can’t and won’t deal with mobile phones! However, today I got a newer deal with them that maybe would suit your Dad? 12 month contract, unlimited Broadband, unlimited landline calls in Ireland, unlimited mobile calls. For e40 per month. Pay by Direct Debit and online billing . that way he would get to keep his Landline phone and have all the Broadband he needs. Oh that includes UK calls as well. The package is called Eir Complete.

    TV's included. We're paying about €83 p/m for triple play, think that's roughly €1000 a year.

"he needs unlimited broadband as this is used for TV"

    That indicates an OTT service.

I domt know what from us. He wants a phone, broadband and tv package. I dont see how his current provider giving him this is abuse of the elderly.

Can he not use saorview or freesat for tv and get broadband without a phone package from someone like vodafone a just pay for whatever calls he makes

Sorry to clarify, I don't need a TV package, I stream TV. I need broadband that can run tv streaming and VOIP hard phone.
