Social welfare payment

    Hi all!

I lost my job in the middle of December last year after working there for almost 8 years. I received the P45 only in early January this year (accountant were on hols + forget to send it with last payment). I almost turned down from the seat when they said at Intreo, that I will get payed only from the date when I was collecting the forms to start the procedure(office were closed as well between Christmas and NYE). It's more than disappointing to lose 2weeks+ money without being 0 days on social welfare before. Should be dated from the termination date or from the next day I think. Illogic, but I see the business in it. I heard in the early 2000's people get payed without photo ID or even being in the country and others were collecting their benefit. Which were a multimillion country budget robbery. Seems to be I've got to pay now for their sins. That's very unfair, cuz' I'm not here to living for free. Rent+costs are ~700-800€ for a month...

Welcome to Boards, Thomas. I've moved your post to the State Benefits forum so you should get some replies here.

You should have presented to social welfare on middle of Dec after losing your job. It wouldn't have made any difference if you didn't have your p45, that could have been send in later. Your claim starts from moment you first go into them. It's tough and I sympathize with you.

As Steer55 said, you should have presented on your first day of unemployment, you are,or at least were, given 14 days from the date of signing on to have all your documentation including the P45 in order.

You will not be reimbursed for the time between losing the job and signing on.

What is highlighted above is not correct.

It is important to apply on the first day you become unemployed because you will not get paid for the first 3 days of your claim.

You might consider calling in to a Citizens Information office as you go through the process. They are very helpful.
