    Hi folks,
I need to know how long my kerosene burner should run while heating rads.
I have 6 double rads in a small well insulated bungalow.
I noticed this evening that the burner stays on for about 9 minutes then turns off for about 3 minutes and that cycle repeats.
The heating had been on for about 45 minutes when I took note of the times.
The trv's are set at number 4 and the dial on the burner is set at about 75.

    Any Ideas
    Thanks

I'm no expert, but does something lead you to think thats unusual ?

AFAIK the burner heats and circulates the water in your circuit until it reaches a certain temp and then turns off until it drops below a temp again, is that bit normal behavior ?

It’s a very ambiguous question really as no two heating systems are the same.

Water flow rates, insulation and boiler efficiency, radiator silting will all effect the answer.

It’s just a matter of adjusting things until you are happy with the level of heat Vs the amount of oil you are using.

What I do is when I feel my house is hot enough I turn off the heating. Iv mine set to 50.

Would it not make sense to fit some thermostats inside the house ?

I thought that as the burner would only be coming on to.. top up the heat.. I thought the on time would be shorter and therefore using less oil.

I agree it makes sense to have thermostats.......

Modern oil boiler stats will not let you set the stat below 60 degrees. If the stat is set to 50 degrees and the water in the copper cylinder is only heated to 50 degrees then you are at risk of legionnaires disease.60 degrees is the minimum the boiler stat should be set to

With the system cold, how long does the boiler run for before it first turns off

Yeah, but what's happening is your internal boiler stat is simply heating the the water to the radiators to its set temp, and then cutting out, and then back in again when it drops below that.
