Leak

I have a leak in a room from above french windows. The leak doesnt appear to come from the windows but from inside the wall. I suspect it is coming in from the external wall above the window and then dribbling down the inside of the external wall. My question is this: if I seal the external wall, is that enough, or do I need to open up the wall to have a look at the internals of the wall for damage?

I’d wonder is the detailing of the dpc surrounding the window incorrect. It’s the most common cause of water ingress surrounding windows.

Is it long built and how long is it leaking.

It's about 15 years old and it is leaking quite heavily between then plasterboard and the top of the window. Not sure how long (just bought)but I think for a while as there is staining on the timber floor. I don't see how it could come through the window as it well sealed on the outside, that's why I am suspecting the first floor window as the entrance point.

Correct fitting of dpc at the windows would throw any water in the cavity out rather than allow it come in to the inner leaf.
