Hi, I recently bought a car and got its logbook, but my name was misspelled (somehow). Is there any issues to having my name spelled wrong on it (i.e. Insurance, legal, etc.) and how would I get it changed? Thanks

If it's just the Surname that's incorrect then I think you can just fill in change of surname section on the back of the logbook and send it back to Shannon and they will issue a new one. Otherwise maybe talk to your local motor tax office and see what they advise to do.

Your local motortax office should be able to rectify it for you.

Its my first name that is misspelled and would I have to go in to the tax office myself? Because I live a good bit away from the tax office in Dublin City Centre

Had a similar issue when I bought my car last year. I was told by the folks at Shannon to circle the typo on the cert with the change needing to be made, plus a letter stating the issue. Once I sent it off to them, they reissued a new cert within a week.

I bought a second hand car and while taxing noticed that the log book and motor tax.ie had the address spelled completely wrong. While taxing it. I was able to change it online. It never said anything about sending me an updated log book or what to do with the old one? It let me update the address and I was able to tax the car. Does anyone know what I should do? Many thanks.

My name is spelt wrong on my logbook since I bought car 4 years ago. Never did anything and has never caused me an issue.

Your local MTO is the easiest. Just bring a form of photo ID or utility bill with your name so they can verify the spelling.

Its a common problem, Shannon have a batch of people whose sole job is to input the details into the system...typos happen,

I wouldn't worry about it unless the misspelling could make it appear to be another actual person.

My first name gets misspelled a lot. Passport and driving licence are correct, almost everything else including current log book, bank accounts and other stuff is wrong. All inputted by someone incorrectly at some point.

Never had any issue with it. Despite the name on the bank account being different from my tax return, Revenue lodged the cheque I sent them without question, funny that.

I have my first name misspelled on car logbook for years, never had any issue whatsoever.
