Periods in class?

My dd 10, five minutes after lunch said she felt her period coming so asked to go to the toilet the teacher said no. She then went to the teachers desk and explained she didn't have a pad on and it was her period. The teacher said that should have been dealt with it at lunch and sent her back to her seat. Dd had to wait until hometime resulting in her leaking.

Am I right to be fuming?

I would be. That's really cruel. It's not as if it's anything she has any control over.
Your poor daughter, that must have been very distressing for her.

I would be absolutely fuming. As if having your period isn't stressful enough while in school (I remember only too well), the teacher added undue stress to the situation. This is a bathroom emergency and under no circumstances should she have been refused permission.

I wouldn't let this go, I'd be straight into the principal to let them know in no uncertain terms that it is completely unacceptable, let alone unprofessional. You should tell your DD that if this is to happen again, she is to insist on going straight to tell the principal so she can call home.

What a nasty thing to do to a child. It must have been very uncomfortable and humiliating.

Funny howsome new posters join to post the same query here as on Rollercoaster and then their first post is about toilet issues.

I very much doubt any teacher would do this. If, indeed , they really did, I'd suggest you complain in the first instance to the class teacher, then the principal if you feel it has not been dealt with to your satisfaction. Far more useful to your daughter than posting across a number of websites, asking people if they would be "fuming."
If this really did happen, surely you know it is wrong and you don't need to ask random strangers if it is wrong?
