Importing a 2017 Mercedes from UK

    Hi All,

I would appreciate some advice where possible?

We've decided to buy in the UK based on prices and spec and after narrowing down from A6 Avant, 5 Series Touring and E-Class 220 Estate, we decided on the E-Class estate - owing to growing family, giant dog and 6ft+ owners!

Anyway, we weren't going to buy for another month or so, until a car popped up at the weekend in the Birmingham area for £33k. It's a E220d AMG premium demo with an absolutely full to the brim spec. It's also coming directly from MB dealer and has 5.8k on the clock. I've spoken at length with the dealer and he finally agreed to £32k and insisted any further negotiation he wouldn't entertain, based on it being 9months old, the level of spec and the mileage. I put down a holding deposit based on me going to see it this weekend.

I've checked the similar spec, age and mileage models in Ireland and one comes up in Cork that is close at €56k and not hitting half of the spec. With VRT and exchange rate (today's), it's coming to about €44k. The car is identical to the one here

Great value or under-priced for some unknown reason? The dealership is in Wolverhampton, which supposedly quieter according to some sources than equivalent main dealers in Brum. I've never bought abroad before and will be traveling on my own, so any advice on what to look out for would be greatly appreciated and any other advice/feedback/experience very much welcomed. Also, the process for importing and people's experience would be great too! Cheers guys!

There is an entire sticky thread at the top of this sub forum about importing a car from the UK. Have a read of the last 20 pages or so to get an idea of the process as the same questions pop up regularly in it.

BTW Revenue will charge you VRT on any factory fitted extras on premium branded cars under 2 years old. That will not be taken into account on the VRT calculator so be prepared for the VRT figure to increase from the figure quoted on the Revenue site. The only other thing to be aware of is the rule that the car be more than 6 months old and have more than 6000 km on the clock otherwise Revenue will charge you VAT here also.

Do they not charge for extras after car is two years old?
Seems like a good deal to me op.
A brilliant estate car at very good price. The merc dealer here can’t compete as they take a nice profit when they import themselves.

From reading on here recently that is what I am lead to believe.

I see you bought this car, does it have comand?

If so does the live traffic funcionality work over here?

I didn't find this to be the case bazz26, I brought in a 6 month old 420d Msport and cleared it there last week, the car is loaded with extras ... I paid 95 extra on top of what the VRT calculator was showing??
I have to admit I was planking it before I paid the VRT as I had red something similar on here a couple of days before my appointment.

Has the Comand Plus and all features are on it alright. Live traffic seems to be working on it as ive seen live traffic buildup etc. and Mercedes Me has been transferred over by the dealer with everything working perfectly. Although it had android auto and Apple carplay on it, to be honest the navigation on it is excellent and far better then I thought it would be. Especially on the widescreen display. Even has remote parking pilot which is a fun toy!

Cheers for that. Saw you on the other forum and was thinking we're in the same boat! It's something that's been on the mind alright. Shelling out a pile on VRT as it is and like yourself, am bricking it that Rosslare will squeeze more out of me! Good to hear it wasn't an arm and a leg because again similar to you, the car is absolutely buckled with options! A few people who I've talked with have been in similar places regarding the extras on a relatively new car and they were charged exactly what was coming up on the calculator. Was there any extra process that you had to go through or wait times etc. because of the model & extras?

If the car's VIN in not in the NCT database when you present it for VRT inspection then they will send it off to Revenue for a VRT figure. This can take upto 10 working days. Given your car is so new and has a fair few extras there is a strong chance of this.
