Hammond Empress Clock

I am not sure if this belongs in this forum, apologies if it is the wrong place.

I am trying to get a bit of information on the possible value of a 1930s Hammond Empress Clock. I have checked online and can only establish that it is 'rare'. I can't find any prices anywhere.

The cable is in very poor condition, so I have no idea whether it would work. It has an engraving on the top edge 'Captain's Prize 1939' and the chrome edge is rather pitted. The face, hands and glass, and base etc are all in perfect, if superficially dirty, condition.

    Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

That's a pretty cool little Art Deco electric clock.

I agree that it's an attractive little clock. No idea about value but some persistence with Ebay Sold Items may yield results. Make sure to check different country sites.

Ah, I have found an ebay result - same place would not tell me anything yesterday - one in probably slightly better condition than mine sold for $300 a couple of months ago. Its a start!

It is a lovely looking clock all right. The price will always depend on the condition and if it's working order.
Ebay listings that state the clock is 'untested' usually mean it is not working and will get a much lower amount.
So the question is whether a mini refurb would be worth the extra you can get for it if you are selling.
It would be great to see it after a sympathetic spruce up, new cable and confirmed as working.

Thanks for that, where would one go to get an electric clock refurbed? (I'm down the country)

Edit - and I have answered myself, Stokes in Cork. Will take it down next week hopefully.

does it say anymore about the captains prize piece ?

Maybe the club would buy it back, or is it a family heirloom ?
