Nest 'Learning' Thermostat

    Hi All,
    Just for everyone's information.

On the latest SW version of the Nest Thermostat they have removed the ability for the Thermostat to pre-heat your home if you are travelling home from work.

Joe, with the latest software update, the thermostat will only preheat the house when the house is occupied. If the Nest Thermostat is in Away/Eco mode, it will not preheat the house, even if True Radiant is set to always ON.

Also, if you switch the Away mode to Home mode when you are away, the Nest Thermostat will switch back to Away mode after some time and it will also turn the heating off again.

If you want the Nest Thermostat to preheat the house before you arrive home, then you can disable Home/Away Assist and disabling this feature will enable True Radiant to engage for all setpoints in your schedule (preheat), regardless of home occupancy.

Normally, if you come home from work every day at 6pm, the thermostat would 'learn' your schedule and preheat your home accordingly - this, in my view key feature - has been removed.

    Joe

Hmmm - maybe our expectations differ, but in "ECO mode", surely it's environmental savings (or $ / CO2) over comfort, rather than the inverse?
Is there another option which isn't "ECO mode"??
