Selling on a flight

    Hi,
The girlfriend booked a flight to New York for a wedding that has since been cancelled. She's prepared to take a hit on her initial cost but exactly how do you go about selling on a flight. Should we put it up on adverts or is there anywhere else people could recommend? Also, if we get a buyer do we have to change the name for them or is this something they can organise themselves. She paid 550 but will take 350 so it will cost the buyer 450 after the name change. Current prices for the same flight are over 650.
    Thanks in advance

Couldn't imagine too many people would be interested in the hassle for such a small saving.

First she will need to ensure that the airline she is flying with allows a name change on the ticket. It usually costs a fee, I think about €100. Depends on the airline. If she found someone to purchase it she would need to arrange the transfer of names to that person.

Really? If I could save 200 on anything I'd consider that a good deal. What kind of saving do you think is worth it?
Obviously we're aware we need to find someone who wants to fly those dates but 200 quid. I'd be well happy, you must be rich :)

It's Aer Lingus so yes €100 is the cost.

I'm not sure you can view it as a €200 saving though.

The current price may be €650, but if someone is flexible to enough to travel the exact days that your girlfriend was intending on going, then they are probably flexible enough to travel on a cheaper day. Not critising, just don't think you should advertise it like that. :)

Otherwise, yeah. Adverts, donedeal etc. I suppose. Personally I'd be a little wary if I saw an ad trying to resell an airline ticket though. It can look like a scam if you're not careful.

When is the flight? Id say closer to the date you are more likely to sell it as the prices just go up. Looking to teh summer now from Ireland to New York i could get a flight for €380.

You could also try websites like this https://sparefare.net/

Id prefer to spend a little more money and be able to pick my own dates to be honest. And not have any worries that there could be issues with my booking.

Thanks for the continued replies. Flight is at Easter so end of March. I guess we're assuming that seeing as it's Easter and NYC is a popular destination we'll get them sold at or around that price but you're all making me think twice now :D

Honestly id say you have no chance. I looked there and Dublin to New York from the 30th to the 6th can be gotten for 400 with Norwegian. Anyone looking for a bargain with take that instead of rebuying a flight for 450.

Norwegian are either indirect or to Stewart Airport so 450 direct to JFK represents good value in comparison.
Would agree with others though that you'll find it difficult to sell the flights on.

Well drat and double drat. I guess we'll just have to put it out there and see what happens. Thanks to all for your replies

There's direct flights to JFK/EWR around the end of March/early April with United and Delta for around €350-€450 so I can't imagine why anyone would want to re-buy a flight for that price.

Would travel insurance cover the cancelled wedding trip?
