I don't know what way the rest of you do research on your next watch purchase, I'm out in the sticks, the nearest decent watch shop is about 70 miles away. I drop in to KV if I have time when I'm passing, apart from that all my research is done on-line, here of course, WUS, omega forum, and to a lesser extent tz-uk. Youtube is a bit hit and miss, but I do like the way this guy https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyXZq_BtdqRtmEz__3PEnrA does his reviews and the urban gentry TGV channel can be good too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GchfsS_DY84

Apart from getting permission from she who must be obeyed, what do the rest of you do before buying a watch?

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Nerd out for months on Google. :)

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

For me, I tend to do things in stages - working out what exactly I want to buy within a set budget, whittling down that list to just one, then researching where to buy. I usually hit the various watch fora (here, watchuseek, forumamontres, watchfreeks to name a few) and youtube to read and hear about reviews or general impressions. After I've narrowed down my choice to 1 which is never easy of course, it's off to see the best price I can find, including used. I recently discovered timepeaks.com which is a Japanese watch buying service - they buy on your behalf from Rauken and yahoo jp auctions. Some really nice deals to be had even once duty is added here. I rarely buy from a bricks and mortar store, possibly because of the brands I like.

Have you bought off timepeaks.com before? Some real bargains to be found here if the watches are authentic.
