Going to take a look at a 06 Sorento 2.5 diesel that is going back on the road. It's been sitting for about 4 years.

I know there's a shopping list of issues on the way but I just want to get it to crank under ignition with no damage to engine internals.

I presume the best course of action initially is to drain & replace the fuel and filter and possibly add a small amount of oil to each cylinder?

Looking for any advice lads for those that have performed automotive resuscitation ;)

    I would

    Drain fuel, replace filter
Drain oil, clean sump and pick up, change oil filter
Drop of oil in each cylinder
    Leave it for a day
    Heat block (maybe overkill)
    Hand crank test
    Good battery.

I'd avoid full stop. I know too many people with that model sorento who have minded it only for it to blow the engine.
    They're quite soft

i have one of these lying up. the battery went flat and the yoke seemed to have lost connection as it were with the ecu, i had to pay 200 euro to get a guy with a hand held computer to sort it

re starting up long dead engines, i am not sure if its worth changing oil first, it it fires up, and it might, change it then

on another note, .ine needs a gearbox or perhaps a transfer box. any odea how much i need to pay to buy one
