    Hi all have read adds in done deal calves and weanlings for sale from closed herds how can they sell them when herd is closed

    They could mean closed herd as in they don't buy in any stock. So less chance of disease.

    Or they could be a closed herd looking to sell to a feedlot number or butcher which is allowable.

    Basically it means that they don't buy in any cattle. They have suckler cows, or dairy cows, probably use ai, so the cattle should be healthier for you to buy, with less risk to your herd when you buy them.
