Always had a keen interest in joining the defence force but after so many applications and no luck. I'm to old to join now which is a pity. Has anybody ever looked into the British army. A good percentage of Irish in the royal Irish regiment, but I would feel like a traitor joining the brits

Do you mean that all the Irish lads in the Irish Guards and Royal Irish are traitors?

That's a sad POV to have when considering joining them, given their magnificent military history and record of service over the years.

You'll need to go into this forum and read some of the thousands of similar posts to make any real decision.

    Good luck.

Absolutely not as I would be proud to serve in the army no matter if it's Irish or British. It's the comments I would receive from other people I may get if I join the British army

Ah I wouldnt worry about it. Do what you want to do. I wanted to be a soldier so I joined the Irish army.

I personally wouldnt consider joining any other military as Im Irish and I felt if you are going to serve, you serve your own country. Its a bit silly I suppose but thats my take on it.

Plenty fine Irish lads have joing the BA, some do very well too. I know a few lads that were in the Irish army who then left and joined the BA. They are getting on really well.

If you cant get into it here and you want to soldier, go for it.

Chalk and cheese really. Way i see it is with the PDF you will do peacekeeping etc (by NO means putting it down, it is an incredibly dangerous job, arguably more dangerous than a offensive combat) while in the BA you will perform more aggressive actions.

    Yup, sums it up nicely.

In the the Irish Army you'll go TO a warzone.

In the British Army you'll MAKE a warzone.
