Sony or Samsung TV, which is best for my apps?

I am looking at two models Samsung 49MU6400,   Sony 49XE8005.
Both are 49 inch, 4K, Freesat tuner, and a 5year warranty. Both are around the same price, however the so called ‘smart’ functions on these TV’s is not really that smart and have tight restrictions on the approved apps they want me to use. The main apps I had hoped to use are RTE Player, Tune In radio and one or two more that I would prefer not to mention here.
Sony has android, but it is really their own customized version of android and from what I understand it is possible to sideload apk files from a memory stick. But does anyone have experience of how well these apps perform on Sony TV’s? Do they crash, stall etc.
I think only certain Samsung tv allow RTE player to be installed, so it appears to be more restrictive.  I’m thinking it may be best to use an external android box for my apps and send them to the TV via HDMI.
Any advice on these TV’s would be much appreciated

I'd try the "talk to" richer sounds thread . Lads seem very nice and you might get a good deal on a telly too from them while you're asking the android related Q's .

Can't help with TV android queries unfortunately myself.

A very quick Google gave me information that the Sony TV mentioned has been updated to Android 7 recently. As far as I can tell most of the more popular apps are available inc Netflix, YouTube, plex. I'd be very suprised if Rte isn't.

Also I have two recent LG sets and both have Rte player installed out of the box.

Because the mods might say 'down with that sort of thing'. Snipped by Mod, Infraction issued.

Thanks Ionised,
Do you mean that the Sony would come with RTE player installed? I'll ring the shop and ask.
Must try richersounds also.

I’ll check again when I go home but the RTÉ player isn’t available from what I remember. I think the app might have added the cast feature though, I’ll try that too and let you know

have a sony 9005 android tv and it does not come with rte player and from info i see online it doesnt seem to work very well when sideloaded. I have loaded kodi and it works well , Plex comes installed. As for tunein SNIP, if the tv comes with chromcast tv or you buy a standalone chromcast would you be able to cast from your phone to the TV. SNIP Just checked and tunein is available on their app store
