Un-registering - No Destruction Cert

    Hey,
Our car went to the garage with a blown head gasket, turns out it was terminal so not worth repairing - 04 Focus. We have a different car now but are getting motor tax reminders for the Focus.
Thing is, the car is still in the garage with half the engine missing as I left it there after listening to the mechanic moan about it for 20mins - You see he did the work and when test driving it BANG then started shouting about the block being cracked. I had left it in to him a day early to do a compression test so I dont feel too guilty about not paying him (he didn't ask anyway), but a bit uncomfortable approaching him again with this as I said hopefully he could get something back on parts, car is in really good condition other than the mechanical issue.
So any idea how I can get this car out of our name without a cert?
Im not too worried about the garage putting it out as a loner or anything as its false economy for them to do that.

    Thanks guys,
    Maruney

Best thing would be to ring the mechanic, ask him does he want the car. If he does then change ownership into his name.

Why dont you feel guilty for not paying the mechanic for his time?? Is he supposed to work for free?
If you dropped it into me I would have parked it on double yellows for you after dragging it through the M50 toll a few times.
I dispise people who think they can treat a mechanic this way. We have bills too.

Thanks, I'll give him a call its been over a month now.
On paying him for his time, I left it to him a day earlier than it was booked in for and gave him €90 cash for a compression test and diagnostic's, called him the next morning and he said it was the head gasket which he could fix for €550 so I said go ahead.
He called me the next evening to collect it and when I went down it was on a recovery truck as it broke down when he was test driving it. He didn't ask for payment ad I didn't offer but I said hopefully you can get something back on parts.
