Studying abroad

I am a Latvian living in Ireland for 8 years now. I am currently in 6th year and I wish to return to Latvia to study chemistry. I asked the university there about my requirements and they seem reasonable. The grades are achievable. And they require things like a diploma stating that I have finished secondary school which I will receive in May. I also need diploma supplements which I can also receive from the school. Diploma recognition I am fairly convinced has to do with Latvia approving it themselves so there’s not much I can do there. The one problem I seem to face is the final exam grades. The deadline for applications is 1st July so I was wondering if I can get a grade transcript from my school giving my average grades from the last 2 years because we all know that the state exam results won’t be out until the middle of August and that’s too late and I don’t want to skip a year or spend a lot of money on Irish colleges and then get transferred and pay again. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi ksl1317, I've moved your post to the Leaving Cert forum where I think it's better suited. Hopefully someone will be able to help you with your question.

Your school should certainly be able to give you that. Are you sure they will accept it in Latvia?

Is there a way they could offer you a provisonal place for this year and then when you get your real results in August it could be confirmed?

Seconding what spurious suggested - it's the basis on which the UCAS works in the UK, as far as I know. Plus bear in mind that you will be able to sit a Latvian exam for a 'free' 100 points to boost any potential grades, so hopefully you'll get in. :)

I suppose I could talk to my career guidance counsellor about this but from what I read I am supposed to get my educational document along with my grade transcripts approved in Latvia but I’m not sure how that will work because we don’t receive any diplomas until May so is there any other educational documents the school can issue???

The SEC is the only issuer of 'official' grades.
However, I doubt you are the first person in your situation.
You should write to the college you intend to go to in Latvia, and ask them what provision they have for 'late' results. Applicants from the UK would be in the same situation.

If the worst comes to the worst, you could always volunteer on one of the paid EU volunteer schemes for a year.

I already wrote to them and they said that they require a transcript of my grades for over the years because they don’t only base their decision off your final grades but also your grades through the 2 years. So maybe I can enroll with my overall grades and then submit my diploma recognition along with my final exam grades. I honestly don’t know I’ve asked several organisations over in Latvia and the only reply I’ve gotten back so far was to start my studies here and then transfer but that would be me paying an awful lot of money then.

If they have said they will accept a transcript of overall grades, then that's great.
No doubt your real cert. coming a little later will either be the same or better.
    Veiksmi.
