    Hello,

We are a small food/farm business which began last year. I'm looking into accounting software to manage invoices (we make 10 deliverieis a week to 5 seperate retail outlets). Currently we use a duplicate book and send an invoice at the end of the month using an excel template.
Additionally I would like that the software facilitates end of year tax returns and runs reports.
I've been recommended sage but recently learned about quickbooks which might be a better option. Any opinions welcome.

    thank you

    I'd suggest Xero or Quickbooks.

Your best options would be any of the following

    Xero - $10 a month - (https://www.xero.com/ie/)
    Quickbooks - $15 a month - (https://quickbooks.intuit.com/global/)
    Sage One Start - €3.50 a month - (http://www.sage.ie/)
    Sage One Accounting - €12 a month - (http://www.sage.ie/)
    BulletHQ - free - https://www.bullethq.com/
    Wave - free - (https://www.waveapps.com/accounting/)

they all offer different levels of functionality with Sage One Start probably being the most simple of the list. They all have free versions that you can play with and figure out what best suits your needs in terms of functionality and ease of use.

The functionality of most software is the same. For a free version I'd use bullethq.com as it's Irish made and free. Alternatively, I'd would lean towards Xero because it's currently the market leader and most accountants and bookkeepers will be familiar with it. Also, it has the most integrations and API's so if you have other software that you want to talk to your accounting software e.g. stock, CRM, deliveries etc. Xero tends to allow integrations if they haven't built one already.

Ive been a user of Xero in the past and was a fan, but for a micro-business I'd agree with @brenbrady.

Bullets basic offering is and always will be free and should offer the OP what they want. The basic philosophy is that as your business grows, so do your accounting requirements. Thereby you can purchase the necessary add-on or apps (eg payroll, multi-user etc) as you need which is how they make their money.

Also there is Freshbooks which starts at about US$15/month and is good for invoicing, but is probably better suited to service providers such as freelancers and consultants (whom charge for their time rather than a product).
