We have been told to get Playboy of the Western World and The Great Gatsby for the comparative section. But the document for prescribed material says they are ordinary level. Are they just ordinary level for the single text or what?

I don't know whether or not they can be used for higher level in the comparative study but this means you'll have to study an extra piece for your single text. We're doing Macbeth which can be used in both

You can't answer the comparative on a text you used for the single text question.

The higher/ordinary indication only applies to the text if it is being used as a single text, ie. if it is one of the nine texts on the second page of the document. Any of the texts can be used for the comparative, as long as you only don't do more than one film. At higher level you must study a work by Shakespeare, whether as a single text or as one of your comparative texts.
