Focus heater - switch or resistor?

    I've a 2004 Focus (MK1), bog standard 1.4 model.

The blower/heater is starting to act up. At the moment, the fan won't work on setting 1, but still works on 2, 3, and 4.

Both the resistor and the switch are €40 plus new from Ford (or online), so before I commit, has any seen a similar issue and any advice?

I'm inclined to go for the switch as all indications are that if the resistor was gone, the blower would only work on setting four.
    Tks :)

    I'd say the switch.

Similar happened to my Mk1 Focus and the switch had melted at the back. Went to a scrap yard to get another switch and half the cars already had the switch removed or the switch was melted already.

    :D
    It hasn't melted (yet) anyway!
Tks, will give the switch a shot first.
